Faculty, students recognized at awards banquet

The College of Medicine graduating class held the annual Student and Faculty Awards Banquet Saturday, May 1. Approximately 30 students received awards recognizing their exceptional performance in the various medical and surgical specialties, said Patrick Duff, M.D., associate dean for students affairs at the COM.

The class presented the Golden Apple Award for the Best Basic Science Course to the department of pathology, immunology, and laboratory medicine and recognized Bill Winter, M.D., as the Most Outstanding Basic Science Teacher.

The Golden Apple Award for the Best Clinical Clerkship went to the department of medicine, and the class of 2010 chose Juan Cendan, M.D.,  of the department of surgery, for the Outstanding Clinical Science Instructor Award. George Rossidis, M.D.,  also of the department of surgery, was chosen as the Outstanding Resident Teacher.

Andrew Miller, who will begin a pediatrics residency at Boston Children’s Hospital this summer, was honored by his classmates with the Student Hippocratic Award. Miller also will be the class speaker during the COM commencement ceremony May 22.
