The first woman graduate of the UF College of Medicine to speak

Dr. Jean Bennett, the first woman to graduate from UF’s College of Medicine, will talk at noon Sept. 8 in room C1-015 about her vast experience in the medical field and what it was like to work, and excel, in the male-dominated field. The talk is part of the monthly History of Medicine lecture series.

Bennett was one of 40 members of the class of 1960 to be the first to graduate from the UF College of Medicine. She went on to specialize in pediatrics and was the president of the medical staff at Morton F. Plant Hospital in Clearwater, Fla. Bennett was named by the American Academy of Pediatrics as the state of Florida Pediatrician of the Year in 1984 and was inducted to the UF COM Wall of Fame in 1988. She practiced in Clearwater for more than 40 years before she retired.
