This year marked the first invitation to the University of Florida College of Medicine to feature an exhibit during the Association of American Medical Colleges’ 2009 annual meeting.

Held at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, Nov. 6 -11, nine representatives from the College of Medicine attended the meeting, including students, physicians, nurses and staff.

The College of Medicine exhibit showcased a variety of programs, including the college’s medical specialty speed dating event, the White Coat Company, interprofessional learning, the resident-as-teacher program and the online physical exam teaching assistants.

“It took a village to put this exhibit together,” said Beverly L. Vidaurreta, Ph.D., program director of the Office of Student Counseling and Development, who organized the exhibit. “It was great to work with the different departments from the college. So many people helped and contributed to this project.”

Visitors to the exhibit were captivated by three videos featuring performances by the White Coat Company and demonstrations of teaching with virtual patients and the online physical exam teaching assistant.

“It went very well,” Vidaurreta said. “We had a lot of traffic at our exhibit. People were especially interested in speed dating and adopting it for their own school.”

The College of Medicine was chosen to feature an exhibit for the first time during this year’s AAMC annual meeting, held in Boston, Nov. 6 -11.
