On Wednesday, Dec. 7, a portion of Newell Drive in front of the Evelyn F. and William L. McKnight Brain Institute will be closed from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. to allow for the safe installation of a large piece of equipment. (Newell Drive is the roadway that runs between the institute and the George T. Harrell, M.D., Medical Education Building, and past the UF Health Shands Pediatric E.R.)

Service Access:

  • One vehicle lane will remain open at all times. A flag person will be on site to direct pedestrian and vehicle traffic.
  • The front entrance of the institute will be closed for the entire day. Please use the side door near the patio on the south side of the building to enter and exit the facility. Temporary detour signs will be posted to guide pedestrian traffic.
  • Access to the Harrell Medical Education Building and other nearby facilities will be not affected.

Background:

The road closure is part of a project that’s underway at the institute to install an advanced, new scanner. The Siemens 3T MRI/S is a powerful $3 million scanner that has the strongest gradients available for human imaging, advanced motion correction capabilities and increased scanning flexibility.

The new 3T will support a rapidly increasing number of federally funded UF investigators who are studying Parkinson’s disease, muscular dystrophy, aging and cognition, Alzheimer’s disease, adolescent brain cognitive development, traumatic brain injury and more.
