Scholarship keeps memory of student alive

More than 10 years ago, friends and family of a UF College of Medicine student came together to create a scholarship fund in her memory.

Caroline Annette Cody, a member of the UF College of Medicine class of 2003, was tragically killed during her first year of medical school. At the class’ commencement, she was awarded a diploma posthumously, which her parents, Dr. William and Betty Cody, accepted on her behalf.

The scholarship committee invites nominations from students and faculty until Friday, Feb. 17. The $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a rising fourth-year medical student in the class of 2013 who has demonstrated the commitment to community service exemplified by Cody. Examples of community service include the Equal Access Clinic, local community projects and international health outreach trips.

The scholarship will be presented at the annual College of Medicine Honors Convocation and the recipient will have his or her name placed on a plaque by the Office of Diversity & Health Equity and the Office of Student Affairs.

Please send nominations to Beverly Vidaurreta, Ph.D., program director for Student Counseling and Development, P.O. Box 100228, Gainesville or email Robyn Sheppard at rsheppard@ufl.edu.
